Foley Catheter insertion and purpose | Animation |
A Foley catheter is a sterile thin flexible tube, which is placed into the bladder to drain urine. This catheter is placed in patients whose urine cannot drain due to a blockage or infection, Like patients with bladder stones, urethral blood clots, or prostate gland enlargement in males. All of these factors contribute to the disruption of urine flow from the bladder. The foley catheter is put into these patients. So that urine can drain as quickly as possible from the bladder. Otherwise, the pressure of the bladder can harm the kidneys. The insertion of a foley catheter in the bladder is called catheterization. In catheterization, the doctor inserts a catheter into the bladder through the urethra. Or It can also be inserted directly from the abdomen through a tiny incision. One end of the catheter has a hole for urine drainage. A balloon can also be seen just beneath this hole, which is inflated with water once the catheter is inserted. This balloon keeps the catheter in place. The other end of this catheter has two points. Of which one point is for the attachment of the urine bag. To which a urine bag can be attached. The bag collects the urine that drains from the bladder. The other point is for balloon inflating by water injection. Depending on the patient's needs, the catheter may be left in place for several hours or even months. When it is necessary to remove the catheter, the balloon is deflated by sucking water. As a result, the catheter can be easily removed. #UrinaryCatheter #UrinaryBagInsertion
