Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Duluth, MN February 27, 2022 9:30 a.m. The Gathering Prelude: “Aria” Flor Peeters Linda Turpening Welcome & Announcements Greeting: The grace of Jesus Christ, the love of God and the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit, be with us all. And also with you. Confession & Forgiveness: Lord Jesus, You are our Beautiful Savior, the King of Creation, Son of God and Son of Man! On the mountain you were transfigured before your disciples so that they, and we, would see your divinity as well as your humanity. At the same time, knowing you as Divine Mystery and Incarnate Word, my sin also becomes known to me. So, in this moment, I pray that you would forgive me, Jesus, and heal me & restore me to a right relationship with you. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen. The Promise: Jesus Christ is the Light of the World! Jesus is the one who was glorified on the mountain & on the cross! And He came so that the world, and each one of us, would know abundant life and light. Therefore, let us receive Christ’s forgiveness and healing, and the radiant light of his Spirit! In the name of Jesus, our Beautiful Savior and King of Creation! Amen. Song: “Beautiful Savior” # 838 The Word Children’s Sermon: Amie Abenth Psalm 99: The LORD is king; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! 2The LORD is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples. 3Let them praise your great and awesome name. Holy is he! 4Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. 5Extol the LORD our God; worship at his footstool. Holy is he! 6Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel also was among those who called on his name. They cried to the LORD, and he answered them. 7He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud; they kept his decrees, and the statutes that he gave them. 8O LORD our God, you answered them; you were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their wrongdoings. 9Extol the LORD our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the LORD our God is holy. “Lord, Let My Heart Be Good Soil” # 512 Luke 9:28-36 The Transfiguration 28 Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. 30 Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. 34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. 35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” 36 When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen.
