Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost - November 13, 2022

Pastor Todd preaching from Micah 6:6–8 Music by Janis Jang and Celebration Bells Choir Last month, our teenagers and some of their adult friends carried [literally!] the blessings given by members of DCC to share with folx living amid difficult circumstances on the streets of San Francisco. After worship that morning at Glide Memorial Church, some of our young people thoughtfully explored the Tenderloin neighborhood—its people, its art, and its heartaches—while others served lunch outside Glide to folx lined up down the street. Our friend Chaplain John Brett helped us understand the challenges experienced by many of the people who face housing insecurity and difficulty accessing services intended to help them. Then we attended Open Cathedral—a worship service held in Civic Center Plaza, organized by the ministers of the San Francisco Night Ministry—before distributing the remainder of our “blessing bags” and heading home on the train. This Sunday, we invite you to join us for a worship service led by our teens and inspired by expressions of generosity, acts of service, and on-the-street companionship, so that you might encourage them in their spiritual formation and so we all might be inspired to continue to live out the words of the prophet Micah: Here is what The Holy One needs from you: simply do justice, love kindness, and humbly walk with your God. Also this Sunday, we are inviting our children to remain in the sanctuary as our young people lead worship, as we feel it is important for them to witness our teenagers serving in these roles. Our Godly Play teachers will be bringing the Godly Play experience into the sanctuary–after we sing The Fruits of the Spirit, of course! Activity bags and the children’s library (with some new titles just added!) will be available in the back of the sanctuary.
