Today is Gaudete Sunday, where we light the rose candle of the Advent wreath, which represents joy. But how many of us actually heed the call to rejoice? While we may feel discouraged, let down and disappointed in these troubled times, today's readings challenge us to a new beginning as John the Baptist announces the Lord's coming. God is here with us, and He invites us to believe, to refresh ourselves, and to be that voice that speaks to the oppressed and despaired spirit of hope, peace and joy.
