Occupational Health and Safety
Securing safety and health at work is essential for sustainable business and protecting workers from accidents and diseases. Employers and workers in South Asia, especially the ones in micro and small enterprises and informal economy workplaces, increasingly require practical and workable support measures to create safe and healthy working environments. We have to also address the needs of disadvantageous groups of workers, including women, migrants, and disabled workers. At national level, sound national policy in occupational safety and health (OSH) is required for strengthening key national OSH system elements such as legal frameworks, inspection, training, or accident and disease reporting systems. ILO’s OSH Conventions provide sound guidance. At the workplace level, robust dialogue between employers and workers need to be promoted for implementing practical OSH improvement measures.
