Black Chana Chaat Recipe | Ramadan Recipe | Kala Chana Aloo Chaat Recipe Ingredients: For the Black Chana: 1 cup dried black chickpeas (Kala Chana) 3-4 cups water (for soaking and boiling) 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp turmeric powder For the Chaat: 1 medium potato, boiled and chopped 1 small cucumber, finely chopped 1 medium tomato, finely chopped 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional) 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (optional) Fresh coriander leaves, chopped 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder (jeera) 1/2 tsp chaat masala 1/4 tsp red chili powder (adjust to taste) 1/2 tsp black salt (or regular salt to taste) 1 tbsp tamarind chutney (optional) 1 tbsp green chutney (mint-coriander chutney) Lemon juice (1-2 tsp) Pomegranate seeds (for garnish, optional) Sev or papri (for garnish, optional) Instructions: 1. Soak the Black Chana: Wash the black chickpeas thoroughly. Soak them in water for 6-8 hours or overnight to soften. 2. Cook the Black Chana: After soaking, drain the chickpeas. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked chickpeas, 3-4 cups of water, salt, and turmeric powder. Cook for about 3-4 whistles or until the chickpeas are tender. If you’re using a regular pot, it may take 20-30 minutes to cook. 3. Prepare the Chaat: While the chana is cooking, chop the boiled potatoes, cucumber, tomato, and onion. In a large mixing bowl, add the boiled and cooked black chana, chopped potatoes, cucumber, tomato, onion, and green chilies. 4. Add the Spices: Sprinkle roasted cumin powder, chaat masala, red chili powder, black salt, and regular salt (if needed). Add the tamarind and green chutney for that extra flavor. 5. Toss the Chaat: Gently toss everything together so that all the ingredients and spices are well mixed. Drizzle some lemon juice over the chaat for a tangy twist. 6. Garnish: Garnish with fresh coriander leaves, pomegranate seeds, and sev or papri for crunch. Serve: Serve immediately as a snack or light meal.
