The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Luke 1:39-56 BLESSED IS THE DISCIPLE At that time, Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For He has looked upon His lowly servant; from now on, all generations will call me blessed.” (Luke 1:46-48) Reflection: When visited by Mary, Elizabeth sensed the grace flowing through Mary’s greeting and exclaimed, “Blessed are you.” Mary, above all, understood that this blessing came from God: “He has looked upon His lowly servant.” This blessing is not confined to the present but extends to all generations: “From now on, all generations will call me blessed.” Moreover, this grace does not remain with Mary alone but overflows to all who hear and live out God’s Word, just as she did (cf. Luke 11:27-28). Invitation: Mary was assumed into heaven not merely because she was the mother of the Savior, but more profoundly due to her attitude of listening to God’s Word and believing it would be fulfilled. Jesus Himself affirmed this clearly: “Whoever does the will of God is my brother, sister, and mother” (Mark 3:35); “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it” (Luke 11:28). Living the Word: Slowly read today’s Gospel and reflect on it in your heart. Prayer: Lord, we thank You for revealing Your living Word to us, which serves as both nourishment and light to guide our path. Grant us the grace to follow the example of Mary in listening to and keeping Your Word, so that one day we may share in her glory in Your Kingdom. Amen.
