The hosts have already sealed the three-match series and will take the field in Mount Maunganui with an eye on sweeping the series. Pakistan, on the other hand, will be playing for pride after two dismal performances in the first two games. The third and final ODI will be played at Bay Oval on Saturday (April 5). New Zealand will be without their star batter Mark Chapman, who missed the last game due to a hamstring tear. He has failed to recover in time, and Tim Seifert, who replaced him in the squad for the second ODI, will remain with the team. The only change likely for New Zealand is Tim Seifert coming into the playing XI in place of either Henry Nicholls or Nick Kelly. In the last match, despite losing five wickets for 132, the Kiwis managed to post a total close to 300, thanks to a career-best knock from wicketkeeper-batter Mitchell Hay. Hay added 77 runs with Muhammad Abbas for the 6th wicket before stitching crucial partnerships with the lower order, unleashing his fury in the backend of the innings. He remained unbeaten on 99 off 78 balls, smashing seven sixes and seven fours. Pakistan's bowlers once again failed to show any control with the ball, giving away 32 extras, of which 20 were wides. Haris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim Jr conceded 75 and 78 runs, respectively, from their quota of 10 overs. In reply, Pakistan's batting failed again as Ben Sears and Jacob Duffy ran through the top order. Pakistan were reduced to 32/5 in 11.4 overs, and it was almost impossible to recover from that situation. Faheem Ashraf swung his bat and made 73 runs, but it wasn't enough. Haris Rauf got hit on the head while batting and was ruled out of the match due to concussion. Naseem Shah came in as the concussion substitute and scored a half-century before losing his wicket, as the visitors were bowled out for 208. Sears finished with career-best figures of 5/59, while Duffy bagged 3/35 to give New Zealand an 84-run win. If Rauf fails to recover, which could be the case in a concussion scenario, Naseem Shah is likely to replace him in the XI for the final ODI.
