Young coconut is among the most popular fruits and snack items you can find across street food markets, particularly throughout South and South East Asian countries such as Cambodia, Thailand, India, and the Philippines. It is a delicious fruit that is also very reasonably priced. Typically, you can buy a coconut and its juice from the vendor, for about 1 to 2 US dollars. The fruit of the young coconut is harvested directly from the tree before it has time to age and drop like the more mature white and brown husked coconuts. Inside the coconut, is a refreshing juice and a soft tender flesh, that is full of nutrients. The coconut juice (or coconut water) and the tender meat of young coconuts are very nutritious. Due to the electrolytes, the water can be used as a natural sports recovery drink, without the high amount of sugar found in store sports beverages. Young coconuts contain nutrients and antioxidant compounds that can provide hydration benefits, as well as may potentially protect us against cellular damage and heart disease. Due to their protein and fiber content, young coconuts are considered a healthy food item when eaten in moderation. A spoon is used to scoop the flesh from the shell when we want to eat the flesh which sometime hard to do. The second tool, the buffalo horn knife can also then be used to separate the flesh from the shell. By preparing coconut this way, we can eat the flesh easier even without using a spoon. #AMAZING, #FOOD, #TRAVEL, #STREETFOOD
