Penang, Malaysia Travel Guide: Best Places to Visit | Solo Trip Itinerary | What To Do | What To Eat
Penang Malaysia, a vibrant destination located on the western coast of the country. There is so much to discover here, from the vast temple grounds of Kek Lok Si, to the white sand beaches of Batu Ferringhi and the endless amount of street food options. Follow me as I take a solo trip to explore what Penang has to offer. I was lucky to visit during the Chinese New Year which made these trip even more special. 0:32 - Exploring George Town George Town is filled with things to see, such as the hundreds of murals and street art scattered throughout the narrow streets. The historic blue mansion where Crazy Rich Asians was filmed and the impressive City Hall building and esplanade area thats great for a breezy walk. Staying in the Old Town area would be a wise choice as it's super convenient to walk and explore the city. 2:33 - Clan Jetties of Penang On the edge of the city you will find the Clan Jetties of Penang which consist of rows of wooden houses sitting on stilts coming out of the water. Each Clan has a separate area of houses and were built by Chinese immigrants that came to Penang in the 19th century. They built these houses near the water so they could easily access the sea to work. This is a great place to walk and enjoy the sunset. From the Jetties you can also see the beautiful Hean Boo Thean Temple lit up at night. I was also visiting Penang during the Chinese New Year temple where the Jetties were packed with people, it was really a special time to be visiting. 4:17 - Kek Lok Si Kek Lok Si temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the entire country and people come from far and wide to visit. The most impressive part of the vast temple is the 7 story pagoda and the impressive Kuan Yin statue. The architecture around the temple complex has multiple design influences, including Burmese, Thai, and Chinese. During Chinese New Year the temple is lit up with thousands of colored lights at night. It was a once in lifetime to catch this spectacle. If you are visiting Penang is it a must to add Kek Lok Si temple to your itinerary. 8:42 - Penang Hill Near the center of Penang Island is Penang Hill, known for its breathtaking 360 degree views of Penang and should definitely be on your itinerary when visiting. If you want a workout you can walk up the hill or for a quicker option you can take the tram car to the top. There’s quite a few attractions on Penang Hill which make it a popular spot for both tourists and locals. The newest attraction is The Habitat Penang where you can enjoy the vibes of the rainforests of the UNESCO Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve. The Curtis Crest Treetop walk is the highest viewpoint on the entire island. 12:20 Batu Ferringhi If you like chilling at the beach, Penang has that too. Batu Ferringhi is Penangs most popular beach, lined with resorts, hotels, and restaurants. It is a great spot to get away from the hustle of the city. Batu Ferringhi offers a ton of different watersports as well as horseriding. After sundown there is a night market in Batu Ferringhi as well as a ton of beach bars and restaurants to kick back and chill out. 13:25 Snake Temple On the south side of Penang island near the airport, is one of the most unusual temples I have ever visited. On the outside you would think that it’s just an ordinary temple, but once you step inside you can see why people come from all across the island to visit, it’s filled with tons of live, venomous pit vipers. The snakes are scattered throughout the temple including a live breeding habitat in the back of the temple. 15:06 Penang Street Food Penang is known as Malaysia's top culinary destination and the street food is incredible and diverse. Hawker centres such as New Lane and Gurney Drive are a great place to get a taste of the local cuisine. The streets of George Town are filled with street food, some of the stalls around Kimberly Street are popular. The Nasi Kandar in Little India is also great to try. Thanks so much for watching and I would love to hear from you in the comments. Happy to answer any questions or feedback. Happy travels and be safe. -GMO SOCIAL MEDIA: IG/Tiktok @certified_gmo EQUIPMENT: DJI Mini 3 Pro Drone Insta 360 X3 Iphone 14 Pro MUSIC CREDITS Music: bensound.com License code: PEHSOAVDDEJDQ2ER Song - The Lounge Music by: https://www.bensound.com License code: WXBIV5AJQBWRLWMQ Song - All That Reminiscence by | e s c p | https://www.escp.space https://escp-music.bandcamp.com Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/moire/new-life License code: XZZBCEI0UZHECQBB Music: Bensound.com/free-music-for-videos License code: J4ICMNMAKS99DL04 Song - Coffee House Music by https://www.bensound.com/free-music-f...
