Magneto plays near the mid to front line depending on your cooldowns of your shields and you can move forward and backwards trying to distract enemies away from your duelists. Magneto has exploding attacks, which you can use to hit enemies hiding on ledges and inside of rooms. If you have it at the right range. it's important to have characters in your range if you want to sneak some extra hits in, so that's why you go in the front and mid line with Magneto!
