Dear friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus denounces three Galilean towns that enjoyed great privileges because many of His mighty works were done in them. My dear friends, Jesus’ words and deeds do not produce in them the desired response of repentance and renewal of life. Privileges are unmerited gifts that we have received from God and others. Every privilege carries with it the responsibility to use it prudently and fruitfully. True, the miracles of Jesus produce much enthusiasm. My dear family of Mother Mary’s Protection, The crowds in Capernaum are so deeply impressed that they do not want Jesus to leave their town. But that isn’t what He looks forward to. He is not interested in superficial followers and mere emotional adherents. Jesus’ words and deeds must produce not amazement and excitement, but fruits in keeping with repentance. Prayer Lord Jesus, give me the child-like simplicity and purity of faith to gaze upon your face with joy and confidence in your all-merciful love.
