The original concept art for Deathclaws had them as mammals with fur, but due to technical limitations of the rendering software, the hair was removed. 9. Troika Games' Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscure features a small quest referencing the main plotline of Fallout. Here, Albert is a magick practitioner from the secluded city of Tulla, sent on a quest to retrieve a water gem for the community. When the player encounters him, he has been cast out of the city, due to the influence the outside world has had upon him during his travels. Loxley, the head of the Thieves' Guild located at the Hub, gets his name from the English tale of Robin Hood, more specifically the Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves film starring Kevin Costner. The name "Loxley" comes from the village and alleged birthplace of Robin Hood, and Loxley's own fake/fading English accent is likely based of Kevin Costner's constantly-disappearing accent in the film. 6. In the Vault Dweller's memoirs it is disclosed that Dogmeat, a potential companion in Fallout, died in the Mariposa Military Base after running into a force field. 5. There is a random encounter called the "Giant Footprint", in which the player will stumble upon a giant, dinosaur-like footprint with a dead body in the middle, holding a Stealth Boy, making it seem like whatever stepped on him never saw them. The encounter is likely a reference to the giant lizard-monster Godzilla. 4. When installing the game on a modern PC using icons larger than 32x32 pixels, the game will use an image of Tim Cain's head as its icon in place of the original Vault Boy. Tim Cain is the original creator, and was the lead programmer for Fallout. 3. A number of promotional items were produced as bonus items, or to help advertise the release of the game, these include; A tin cup (actually made of aluminum) with the Fallout logo. A ball point pen designed to look like a stimpak, which contained a purple liquid. Postcards T-shirts depicting a Brotherhood of Steel member and the phrase "Everything Else is Dead or Dying.” 2. When the Lieutenant is torturing the Vault Dweller, there is a possibility to give in to the torture and reveal the location of Vault 13. This will result in a cut scene, where the Vault Dweller is dipped into a tank of FEV while Vault 13 is being raided by Super Mutants, after which the game jumps back to the main menu. This can be considered a possible non-canonical ending. 1. Fallout’s original title was “Vault 13: A GURPS Post-Nuclear Adventure” GURPS stands for Generic Universal Role Playing System. What does GURPS do? From the GURPS FAQ: “GURPS is a 3d6 skill-based system. It uses a point-based character creation system, and represents characters using four basic stats (Strength, Dexterity, IQ, and Health) along with advantages, disadvantages, perks, quirks, and skills.
