Usually the first trimester is associated with nausea, vomiting, lethargy and low sexual drive, also the risk of miscarriage is higher in the first 3 months. So intercourse should be avoided in the initial 3 months but it is absolutely safe to have sex in the subsequent months if high risk factors are absent. Regarding position of intercourse, from 6 months onwards weight of the growing uterus can compress the blood flow if the mother is on her back.
