Remove Late Payments from Credit Report: Do Credit Repair Yourself!
Did you know that you can do credit repair for yourself and for free?? I ended up getting a late payment on my credit report, and I was able to do my own credit repair and remove my 30 day late payment myself! Late payments can stay on your report for 7 years, and seriously impact your score. Mine dropped 100 points just from that one little mistake, and I had worked so hard to get my credit score up over the years. So I’m going to talk about how I was able to get that late payment removed, legally! And how you can do this for yourself. And please be wary of any company trying to sell you credit repair services, for one if they’re doing it legally, you can do all those same things for free for yourself. If they’re saying they can mask accurate information on your account, that’s when you should be worried they could be doing something illegal. My late payment came from a mix up while I was refinancing my home. Then I got a letter in the mail saying I was late by 30 days on my payment. I was so shocked. I logged into my credit tracking and my score had dropped 100 points. Like from mid 700s to mid 600s. But, this mistake doesn’t need to be permanent. If you’re in a similar situation, don’t panic yet. I learned about something called a goodwill adjustment. A goodwill adjustment is essentially asking for goodwill from the company. You can find goodwill adjustment templates online, but you should tailor them to your specific situation. Here is my goodwill adjustment letter the exact letter I used that was successful in getting my 30 day late payment removed from my credit report. Feel free to use my goodwilld adjustment letter and tweak for your own use. Dear Customer Care Team at [Company], Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I am a loyal customer of [company] and I have actually recently refinanced my loan with [mortgage company] because of the great terms the company offered me. I’m writing because I noticed [ company] reported a late payment in [month and year] on my credit reports. I am requesting a goodwill adjustment to remove this late payment from my TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax credit reports. I realize that I did indeed miss the payment deadline. Unfortunately, this was during the process of my refinance, and in the middle of everything with COVID-19. I was pretty overwhelmed and when my closing date got pushed back, I tried to make the payment, not realizing that I had ordered a stop payment on my account. I tried to make the payment several times, but I didn't realize my mistake until after the 30 days had passed. I attached screenshots to show that I really truly thought I was making the payment, but each time it came back as Payment Reversal, and I could not figure out why. I do take full responsibility for the mistake and I assure you it won't happen again. As you can see, that one-time mistake was a fluke. I've been on-time with every payment, not only with your company, but with every account I have. I know the heavy negative impact of the late payment could affect me for many years to come and with the personal and career goals I have, this would be a huge burden for me. If you could make the goodwill adjustment requested, I would seriously appreciate that. Thank you so much for your time and consideration!
