Swelling is common and widespread in kidney failure patients. Swelling in kidney failure patients is also known as pitting Adema. Swelling signifies the accumulation of fluid. The patient needs to note the symptoms and work accordingly to get rid of that swelling. 1. When a kidney failure patient suffers heavy protein loss, which can be seen with the naked eyes as frothy urine appears during urination. It is also the early symptom of kidney failure patient due to which the patient suffers weakness and weight loss. Decreased kidney function hampers the kidneys' process and results in the accumulation of waste material in the patient's body like creatinine, urea, uric acid, and electrolytes. We advise patients to take milk, egg white, and pulses but not without the consultation of the doctors. 2. High salt intake also causes swelling in the patient's body. Sodium chloride which is present in salt results in the accumulation of fluid in the patient's body. This also causes swelling in the patient's hands, legs, and face. Therefore we advise every patient to restrict salt intake in their diet. We recommend a patient with high sodium levels to avoid salt for few days, and patients with average values can take a pinch of sendha namak in every meal. 3. Haemoglobin is equally responsible for increasing swelling in the patient's body. This occurs due to the adequate amount of erythropoietin hormone production, which further causes anemia in the patient. As your kidneys and low kidney functioning produce erythropoietin hormone, this starts to decrease, which additionally affects the patient and causes swelling. Therefore we advise the patient for erythropoietin injections that will help the patient. 4. Hypothyroidism is another cause of the swelling. The thyroid gland cannot produce enough hormones, which further affects the person's body temperature, heart rate, and metabolism. Hypothyroidism can be handled by giving artificial hormone therapy as well as supplements to the patient. To check the actual reason for swelling, we advise the patient for KFT, urine routine test, thyroid test, and hemoglobin test.
