First Sunday in Lent, March 6, 2022
The Gospel text assigned for this First Sunday in Lent is Jesus' temptation in the wilderness. If this text is primarily a "how-to" manual for combating the devil and his temptations, we've missed the point. What's the point of this text? It's this: Jesus is standing in your place doing for you what you could not do for yourself. He is taking on the devil and all his temptations and schemes—and He is defeating him for you.
