The story goes that Prince Siddhartha, who would later become the Buddha, was born into a life of luxury and privilege. However, one day, he ventured outside the palace walls and saw four sights that would change his life forever. The first sight he saw was an old man, feeble and bent with age. The second sight was a sick person, writhing in pain. The third sight was a funeral procession, with mourners weeping for the departed. And finally, he saw a wandering ascetic, who radiated a sense of calm and inner peace. These four sights made Siddhartha realize that the world is full of suffering and that even the most privileged individuals cannot escape it. He decided to leave his life of luxury behind and seek a way to end suffering for himself and others. Through meditation and contemplation, Siddhartha eventually became the Buddha and taught the Four Noble Truths, which form the foundation of Buddhist philosophy. The first Noble Truth is that suffering exists, the second is that suffering arises from craving and attachment, the third is that it is possible to end suffering, and the fourth is that the path to the end of suffering is the Eightfold Path. In essence, the story of the Four Sights teaches us that happiness is not found in material possessions or worldly pleasures but through cultivating inner peace and letting go of attachments and cravings. By following the Eightfold Path, we can end our own suffering and find true happiness. Your Queries: What is the story of the Four Sights? Who was Prince Siddhartha, and how did he become the Buddha?
