Piriformis Syndrome should really be called Piriformis Symptom This awful condition is one which causes pain or numbness in the glute (usuallyon one side only), hip, or upper leg when the piriformis muscle in the buttocks presses on the sciatic nerve.Β It's a type of deep gluteal pain and affects more women than men Causes include: πŸ”” Poor body mechanics πŸ”” Rapid increase in training or activity level πŸ”” Poor running or walking technique πŸ”” Muscle imbalances, tight adductors or weak gluteal muscles Piriformis syndrome is often caused by repetitive stress on the piriformis muscle from sports or movement, such as walking, running or lunging. To prevent it, use strength and balance training methods. πŸ’ͺ🏼 Strengthen your glutes: Keep your glute muscles strong and balanced so they can handle your regular exercises. πŸ’ͺ🏼 Stretch your glutes: Regularly stretch your glutes, or when the area feels like it needs it.
