Crime Blotter: Jury gets toddler beating death case

A jury will soon decide the fate of a Banning man charged with fatally beating his two-year-old stepson and leaving him uncared for, for two days. Andrew Lee Payne, 24, is charged with first-degree murder, felony child abuse and two felony drug charges in the Nov. 11, 2011 killing of the boy, Robert Vorhees. A separate jury will hear closing arguments Thursday for the boy's mother, Davia Damanique James, 22, who is charged with second-degree murder.
