How To Build A Wine Cap Mushroom Bed With Stem Ends. I hope you enjoy and find this video helpful! Thanks for watching! 💚🍄 Wine cap mushroom, Stropharia rugosoannulata, is saprophytic, obtaining nutrients from dead and decaying organic matter such as straw or wood chips (lignin and cellulose). If grown in ideal conditions, wine caps are less susceptible to contamination and can grow aggressively outside of their designated areas. Mushrooms comprise bunched-up hyphae that make up mycelium. I prepared a straw bed about three inches tall, placed three stem ends I cut from the mushrooms on it, and covered it with two inches of straw. I watered the bed, keeping it moderately moist throughout the season and watering it twice weekly in the summer. I replenished the bed with two inches of straw in late summer, fall, and spring. The straw was kept around 60% moisture level. Avoid waterlogged substrates as they can lead to contamination. The mycelium proliferated in the straw bed by springtime after dormancy (nine months later). As the weather warmed in May, mushroom-fruiting bodies started to emerge. This bed has been productive from May to October, with a few weeks of rest in between. I hope you find this video helpful. Thanks so much for watching!
