Third Sunday in Lent/Youth Sunday Inward Journey Home: Simplicity - Melanie Costello Worship/Music Notes Welcome to Youth Sunday where our children and youth lead us in worship! With today’s spiritual discipline, you will hear the power of simplicity with music that echoes a time of childhood. Before we begin worship, we can center ourselves during the extended prelude, CPE Bach’s Solfeggio in C Minor and Handel’s Violin Sonata No 4, played by Adam Fischer and Julia Yousif. The Treble Boys then sing an exuberant song of adoration in My Voice Shalt Thou Hear as we are reminded to “early in the morning direct our prayer” to God. The Senior Boys and Girls then remind us that God holds each one of us in his hands. As the service begins, we Turn [Our] Eyes Upon Jesus, and sing together My Life Flows On, knowing that “Christ is Lord of heaven and earth.” As we hear the Assurance of Pardon, the Junior Girls first sing A Lenten Prayer, asking God to help us follow Jesus and make us “pure on Easter Day.” Following the Word with Children, we will join them in the congregational response of Open the Eyes of My Heart, which they have been learning in Sunday School. The Senior Girls then sing to God a Simple Song, and after the word is proclaimed, we proclaim the simple statement that “Jesus loves us,” in singing Hymn 188. The offertory anthem is the thrilling and powerful Kyrie by Louis Vierne. After collective prayer, we sing I Danced in the Morning to the tune Simple Gifts.
