FAITHFOOD FOR THE FAITHFUL August 27, 2020 Thursday St. Monica 1st Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:1-9 Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 145:2-7 Gospel: Matthew 24:42-51 ***A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew… Glory to You, oh Lord*** Jesus said to His disciples, “Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come. “Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so. Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is long delayed,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with drunkards, the servant’s master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.” ***The Gospel of the Lord...‭ Praise to You, oh Lord Jesus Christ***‬‬‬ REFLECTION: WHEN WE DESERVE THIS Sis. Dea Fresnoza, SOWER ‬‬ When the lockdown brought us so many devastating things, the top-of-mind question for most was “did we deserve this?” I am sure you have also asked God the same question over and over. When I asked my husband the same question, as honest as he is...from his heart, he told me, "we deserve this.” Linking this to the Gospel today, I thought, “need we say more?” Ever since, God has never lapsed in reminding us to be vigilant, to prepare. Even the gist of His word tells us, “hope for the best, expect for the worst.” Sure, we were really caught unaware. But, after all the fiasco over the past months, it occurred to me that maybe we really do deserve this, noh? Because when God tells us to prepare, we do otherwise. What makes it more painful is that the lesson that we got was not just worldwide in scale, but also took plenty from us! Lives here and there, businesses, our daily income...even our regular communal worship! Lesson learned. But the bigger lesson that personally I wish for everyone to see is to still “hope for the best” amidst the challenges. Hope for the best while we do our small portions in the confines of what we can control. Prepare for what is next. Live up to our gift as Catholics—the gift that while everything else is “burning,” our hearts are still filled with fires of joy. Prayer: Lord, help us to continue to hope for the best. Your “best.” Amen. #sowersfaithfoodforthefaithful #Gospelfortoday #dailyreflections #handofthesowercatholiccommunity #handofthesower #hscc #sower
