NASA LIVE: Dragon Spacecraft Heads To Earth; Splashdown Imminent | De-orbit sequence starts | Sunita Williams | SpaceX | CNBC TV18 Two Nasa astronauts who have spent the past nine months orbiting the Earth on the ISS will soon splash down off the coast of Florida.Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore left Earth in June 2024 for an eight-day mission to test Boeing Starliner's capsule The capsule suffered technical issues, so Nasa decided to keep them on the ISS and return the Starliner to Earth empty. The Crew-9 capsule just jettisoned the trunk at its base as expected. The vehicle is now beginning its harrowing descent back toward Earth by igniting its main thrusters for a key “deorbit burn.” The engines will fire in order to orient the vehicle and allow it to safely slide back into the atmosphere. This move mark the beginning of the end, as the Crew Dragon spacecraft slows down from orbital speeds — which top 22 times the speed of sound. The astronauts are concluding their trip with SpaceX’s Crew-9, a routine International Space Station staff rotation mission, alongside NASA’s Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov. Wilmore and Williams’ mission became a political flash point when President Donald Trump and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk made unclear statements saying the company could have brought the astronauts home sooner but was denied by the Biden administration. #sunitawilliams #nasa #spacex #elonmusk #trump #wilmore #cnbctv18
