Today's Catholic Mass Readings and Reflections December 7, 2022 | Mass Gospel and Reflection | Mt Catholic Daily Mass Readings for December 7, 2022, Wednesday of the Second Week of Advent, Memorial of Saint Ambrose, Bishop and Doctor of the Church 1st Reading Isaiah 40:25-31 Responsorial Psalm Psalms 103:1-2, 3-4, 8 and 10 Gospel Matthew 11:28-30 Personal Reflection Today’s Reflection on the Readings Prayer Prayer to Saint Ambrose, Bishop and Doctor of the Church Lord, you made Saint Ambrose an outstanding teacher of the Catholic faith and gave him the courage of an apostle. Raise up in your Church more leaders after your own heart, to guide us with courage and wisdom. Saint Ambrose, your education, courage, and teaching became a model for bishops for many centuries. Help all bishops to have bleeding hearts, iron wills, and razor sharp minds so that they can lead the faithful as successfully as you did. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Saint Ambrose, Bishop and Doctor of the Church - Pray for us Personal Reflection Which of my life's responsibilities are the most heavy? How frequently do I spend time in the Lord's presence seeking His rest? Today’s Reflection on the Readings Jesus invites each and every one of us, dear friends, to "Come to Me" in the Gospel passage for today. Why? Because it appears that the common people in Jesus' day had to bear a great deal of burdens, including an oppressive legal system imposed by the authorities, burdens of poverty and illness, and burdens associated with social and religious customs. Jesus contrasts them with His light, simple yoke, which is characterised by love, freedom, gentleness, and mercy. Dear friends, He is aware of our labor's weariness, the magnitude of our burdens, and the frailty of our physical and spiritual selves. He likens the weights we bear on a daily basis to a yoke that oxen must bear. Yes, each of us is fortunate to have such a wonderful friend in our lives, dear friends. He is coming to us to forgive all of our transgressions and to heal all of our illnesses. He saves our life from being destroyed and bestows kindness and compassion upon us. Dear friends, may this Advent be a season in which we grow closer to Jesus in preparation for meeting Him at Christmas. Prayer Lord of compassion and love I'm grateful for your gentle and humbling invitation to "come to you" and find rest in your arms. Lord, today I specifically ask that you help me to have an open heart to the suffering in the world, to develop compassion for everyone who struggles, and for those whose dignity is violated. Lord, I beg you to let my heart reflect your desires and for my eye to resemble yours. Lord, you are aware of what makes me slack off and lose heart. Help me and my "Mother Mary's Protection" family to put all of our burdens in your hands while putting our faith in your Word. May almighty God bless us, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
