NIFTY PREDICTION FOR TOMORROW & BANKNIFTY ANALYSIS FOR 18 FEBRUARY 2024 | MARKET ANALYSIS TOMORROW
the Indian stock market exhibited a modest recovery after an eight-day losing streak. The BSE Sensex edged up by 57.65 points (0.08%) to close at 75,996.86, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 30.25 points (0.13%) to settle at 22,959.50. This uptick was primarily driven by gains in financial and pharmaceutical sectors, with notable performances from Adani Enterprises and Bajaj Finserv, which rose by 4% and 2%, respectively. Despite today’s gains, the market has faced significant challenges recently. Over the past eight sessions, the Nifty has declined by 3.2%, influenced by factors such as high stock valuations, subdued corporate earnings, and global trade uncertainties. The small-cap segment has been particularly affected, with the Nifty Smallcap 100 index entering bear market territory after a 20% drop from its December 2024 peak. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have been net sellers, withdrawing approximately ₹2.94 trillion since October 2024, driven by concerns over earnings growth and elevated valuations. Additionally, apprehensions regarding potential reciprocal tariffs from the U.S. have added to market volatility. In response to the prevailing uncertainty, mutual fund investors are shifting towards the relative safety of large-cap stocks and gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs). January 2025 saw a 52.3% surge in inflows into large-cap funds, amounting to ₹30.63 billion, while gold ETFs attracted record inflows of ₹37.51 billion. Analysts suggest that while the market may experience continued volatility in the near term, a recovery is anticipated in the next quarter as earnings stabilize and global tensions ease. Emkay Global maintains a December 2025 Nifty target of 25,000, indicating potential attractiveness at the 22,500 level. In summary, the Indian stock market is navigating a complex landscape marked by global trade issues, investor sentiment shifts, and sector-specific challenges. While short-term volatility persists, strategic positioning in large-cap equities and defensive sectors may offer resilience amid the current uncertainties.
