Dark City is a 1998 neo-noir science fiction film directed by Alex Proyas. It was adapted from a screenplay written by Proyas, David S. Goyer and Lem Dobbs. The film stars Rufus Sewell, Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly, and William Hurt. Sewell plays John Murdoch, a man suffering from amnesia who finds himself accused of murder. Murdoch attempts to discover his true identity to clear his name while on the run from the police and a mysterious group known only as the "Strangers".[3] This movie makes an excellent analogy with the Gnostic Truth, but not one that is easily interpreted on the metric dimension alone. One must be willing to go all the way to the transmundane dimension in order to deal with the plot of this movie, since it goes even further than the typical "aliens who are sufficiently advanced" trope and seems to truly broach the Gnostic understanding of "archons" as metaphysical beings. Yet these are still within the bounds of the transmundane, the way paved for them by so many predecessors in cinema and T.V. Therefore, this movie is much easier to interpret Gnostically than conventionally! This has its virtues, but also opens up new challenges. For example, can you reduce the events in this movies into their themes and mathematically transduce the form back into the mundane world and attach them to their conventional analogues?
