This dessert was super-popular in the 1960s. I still love it today! The baking dish I used holds 11 cups, and measures 9.1 x 7.1 x 3.5 inches. Any similar-sized baking dish will work here. For the custard: 1/2 cup (100g) sugar 1/3 cup (45g) flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 3 yolks from large eggs 2 cups (500ml) milk 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract For the meringue topping: 3 egg whites from large eggs 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar 1/4 cup (50g) sugar For assembling: 1 box original 'Nilla Wafers OR 2 (7.25) packages Chessmen cookies 5 bananas Bake at 350°F until the meringue topping colors lightly -- 10-15 minutes.
