Today's Catholic Mass Reading and Gospel Reflection - September 9, 2025

Rooted in Christ, Chosen for Mission 1st Reading - Col 2:6-15 Gospel - Lk 6:12-19 In the first reading, Paul urges the Colossians to remain rooted in Christ, strengthened in faith, and overflowing with gratitude. He reminds them that through Christ, they were freed from the bondage of sin and given new life. This passage highlights the victory of the cross, where Christ disarmed the powers of darkness and triumphed over them. Our faith is not built on human wisdom but on the fullness of life we receive in Jesus. In the Gospel, Jesus spends the night in prayer before choosing His twelve apostles. From among many disciples, He calls them by name and entrusts them with a special mission. Following this, great crowds gather to seek healing and hope, finding power and life in His presence. This shows us the importance of prayer in discerning God’s will and the mission of bringing His love to others. Together, the readings remind us that to live as disciples, we must be deeply rooted in Christ and open to His call. Just as the apostles were chosen for a mission, so too are we called to share in Christ’s victory by living as witnesses of His love. Prayer, gratitude, and faith keep us grounded and ready to respond. Through them, we draw strength to face challenges and become instruments of God’s healing presence. Today, I will spend time in prayer, asking the Lord to root me more deeply in His love and truth. I will reflect on the unique mission He has entrusted to me in my family, workplace, or community. With gratitude, I will recall how Christ has freed me from sin and given me new life. Strengthened by this, I will seek to share His healing presence with someone who needs encouragement and hope.
