Guided Meditation - Loving & Kindness

Welcome to this loving-kindness meditation. This practice helps relieve stress by cultivating feelings of warmth and compassion for ourselves and others. Make sure you’re comfortable, sitting or lying down, and gently close your eyes. Take a deep breath in… and slowly breathe out. (pause) Feel your body begin to relax and your mind start to settle. We’ll begin by focusing on sending kindness to yourself. Often, we forget to give ourselves the kindness we easily give to others. Take another gentle breath. Now, in your mind, say the following phrases to yourself, or simply feel the intention behind them: May I be happy. May I be peaceful. May I be healthy. May I live with ease. (pause) As you repeat these kind wishes, you might imagine a warm, loving light glowing in your heart center, filling you with comfort and peace. If it feels difficult to offer these wishes to yourself, remember that you deserve the same kindness and care that you would offer to a dear friend. Now, bring to mind someone you care about deeply. It could be a dear friend, a family member, or even a pet – anyone who easily brings a smile to your face. Picture them clearly in your mind, perhaps seeing their smile or feeling their presence. With the same warmth, silently offer them the phrases: May you be happy. May you be peaceful. May you be healthy. May you live with ease. (pause) Imagine that warm light in your heart extending out to them, enveloping them in love and peace. Feel the positive energy flowing from you to them. Next, think of someone you don’t know very well – perhaps an acquaintance or even someone you saw in passing today. Extend your goodwill to this person as well, silently repeating in your mind: May you be happy. May you be peaceful. May you be healthy. May you live with ease. (pause) Recognize that, just like you, this person wishes to be happy and free from stress. By offering them kindness, you also nurture the kindness within yourself. Now, let your loving-kindness expand even further. Imagine it radiating out from your heart to everyone around you – to your whole community, and then to all people and living beings in the world. You might silently say: May all beings be happy. May all beings be peaceful. May all beings be healthy. May all beings live with ease. (pause) Rest for a moment in this feeling of boundless compassion. Notice the warmth or lightness in your body and the calmness in your mind. When we cultivate compassion and love, our own stress and worries often melt away. Take a deep breath in, soaking in this positive, loving energy, and a slow breath out. Now gently bring your awareness back to your body and the present moment. Feel the surface beneath you and the weight of your body on it. Wiggle your toes and fingers, bringing movement back. Listen to the sounds around you in the room. When you feel ready, slowly open your eyes. Take a moment to notice how you feel – hopefully more peaceful and connected.
