Pastors guard the flock

Acts 20:29-31 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. You can hear the emotion in Paul’s writing. This means a lot to him. He shed tears over this issue – that there will be people who want to distort the truth. From your own number – people who may even want to appear Christian or godly or spiritual, they will introduce ideas that are false, divisive, and misleading. Those aren’t shepherds, those are wolves. You need someone who knows the Scriptures, who has been trained to discern truth from error, whom you can call up and ask “Hey, what’s this all about?” Or “What do you think of what they’re saying about this?” The problem is, most of the time, people aren’t looking to their pastor for answers. When they go off to college and are introduced to things that conflict with the Word. Or their friends are saying something. Or they read something online. Things that distort the truth and draw the sheep away, and the sheep follow, often times without even saying a word to the shepherd.
