A reading from the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 7:11-17 At that time, 11 Jesus went to a town called Nain. His disciples and a large crowd were with him. 12 When he reached the gate, behold, a dead man was being carried out, his only son; and his mother was a widow. A large crowd from the town followed her. 13 When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep!" 14 He came and touched the bier, and those carrying it stopped. Then Jesus said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!" 15 The man who had been dead sat up and began to speak. And Jesus gave him back to his mother. 16 Everyone was filled with fear, and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has appeared among us, and God has come to visit his people." 17 And news of this spread throughout all Judea, and throughout the surrounding region. Word of Salvation.
