Ingredients: -1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour/ bread flour -1 ½ tbsp (18g) sugar -½ tsp salt -1 tsp instant yeast -1 large egg (room temperature) -¼ cup (60ml) warm milk -1 tbsp (15ml) warm water (add more if needed -2 tbsp (28g) softened unsalted butter Process: -In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast -Add the egg and warm milk. Mix until dough forms -Knead the dough for about 5–6 minutes (by hand or mixer) -Add softened butter in small pieces and continue kneading until the dough is smooth and stretchy or until it passes window pane test (takes about 20-30 minutes when kneading with hands)) -Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with damp cloth or cling film, let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size for about 1-1.5 hours -Punch down the dough and divide into 4 equal pieces (75–80g each). -Shape each piece into a smooth ball, place it on a lightly greased sheet pan and flatten slightly -Cover the balls and let it rise for about 30-40 minutes -Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F -remove the cover from the dough balls and gently brush with Egg wash (1 egg + 1 tsp milk/ water) -Top it up with sesame seeds/ poppy seeds at this stage (optional) -Place the tray in the oven and bake for 15–18 minutes, until deep golden brown -Remove the tray from the oven, apply butter and let it cool on a rack. -Serve and enjoy!
