Pastor Christopher Piotrowski (Weinberggemeinde Berlin-Spandau) 요한복음 / Johannes 11:1,3,17–27,38b–45 --설교 말씀 참조-- Dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus! Why do we come together today? Why can we come together today for our festival of not only one, but three (and later four) congregations – united under one roof and in one faith? We come together because we are alive. It’s not only that we breathe and that we can feel our heart beat. Many people consider breathing and having a beating heart as sufficient for being alive. But there’s more to life than just that. You’ve all heard the story of Jesus reviving Lazarus. He was dead in terms of not breathing and not heaving a beating heart anymore. If someone is not breathing and does not have a beating heart he’s dead. I think most of us would agree. That’s the common meaning of the word “dead”. Its common meaning involves being the opposite of “alive”. But in what we’ve heard, Jesus has changed the meaning of being dead. He did so by changing the meaning of being alive. Whether we’re breathing or not breathing, whether our heart is beating or not – it doesn’t matter for Jesus. He was able to revive Lazarus from the dead because Lazarus was alive. Lazarus was Jesus’ friend, the “one he loves” as his sisters called him. That’s what made him stay alive even when his breath and his heart beat stopped. That was all that counts. We have gathered here to celebrate this life. We can sing and we can dance, we can play and we can talk, we can eat and we can hug each other because we are breathing and our hearts are beating. But our breath and our beating heart are not simply given to us in order to survive. We have our breath to sing praises and a heart to beat the rhythm of the joy that comes from having community with Jesus Christ. We celebrate life. We celebrate a certain life that comes from being united with Christ and from being united in Christ. We celebrate a life which, in the eyes of God, qualifies as life in the first place. We celebrate it as we recognize Jesus as the life itself. Sharp tongues have stated that Lazarus fulfills all the criteria of being a zombie. And I do confess that my imagination of Lazarus, wearing not only strips of linen and a cloth around his face, but also wearing the stench of death, resembles a lot the modern depictions of zombies in pop culture. But there’s an important difference: What distinguishes Lazarus from a zombie is the love of Jesus. Lazarus is not alive because his heart has started to beat again or his feet carry him out of the tomb. He is alive because Jesus loves him. Whether he moves around or not. Now we’re here to move around serving our neighbors, dancing and celebrating. And we’re here to sing the song of life, praising God. We’re not zombies, but we’re loved by Christ, alive – not by our heart beat and breath, but by the touch of Jesus himself. We are children of God, we are brothers and sisters. Let’s never forget this. And let’s never forget that even those who have passed in Christ Jesus before us, have not died and will never die. Just like Jesus said: The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Let us live together. Amen. ------------- 연합예배와 여름축제 순서 Spätsommerfest der EV.
