Roll Over: Tips & Tricks

Ah...the elusive "roll over". However, it's more than just a stupid pet trick! Let's break it down and look at how to help your dog be successful in learning how to do this. Steps: 1. Down 2. Relaxed down (rolled up on to one hip) 3. Lay on side 4. Roll onto back 5. Roll onto other side Voila! That's Roll Over! There are a lot of steps to teaching this, so make sure that you chunk it down for your dog into simple steps, celebrate the small wins, give your dog time to process and problem solve, and give frequent breaks so your dog's brain doesn't burn out. Keep in mind that some dogs are interested in learning this and some dogs might not be interested in it-that's okay! Also, make sure that your dog is physically capable of this. If you have a dog with a different body type (English Bulldogs), this may be difficult for them to do based on their shape and the amount of bulk that they need to move.
