THE LIGHT OF CHRIST COMES AMONG US Prelude Words of Welcome Candle lighting: The God of Heaven Thunders The God of heaven thunders, Whose voice in cadent echoes, Resounds above the waters, And all the world sings, Glory, Glory, Glory! The desert writhes in tempest, Wind whips the trees to fury, The lightning splits the forest, And flame diffuses, Glory, Glory, Glory! The Mighty God eternal Is to the throne ascended, And we who are God’s people, Within these walls cry, Glory, Glory, Glory! Exchange of the Peace of Christ Gathering Prayer: We pray: God, help us to listen to our inner spirit: to the inner yearning to belong to something greater than ourselves. May we listen to our inner spirits and find there the presence of your good encouraging spirit. May it be so. Amen. A Time of Centering Gathering Hymn: Come and Find the Quiet Center Come and find the quiet center in the crowded life we lead, find the room for hope to enter, find the frame where we are freed: clear the chaos and the clutter, clear our eyes, that we can see all the things that really matter, be at peace, and simply be. Silence is a friend who claims us, cools the heat and slows the pace, God it is who speaks and names us, knows our being, touches base, making space within our thinking, lifting shades to show the sun, raising courage when we're shrinking, finding scope for faith begun. In the Spirit let us travel, open to each other's pain, let our loves and fears unravel, celebrate the space we gain: there's a place for deepest dreaming, there's a time for heart to care, in the Spirit's lively scheming there is always room to spare! Learning Together Introit: Be Still and Know Be still and know that I am God, be still and know that I am God, be still and know that I am God. WE HEAR GODS WORD First Reading: 1 Kings 1-4, 8-15 Gospel Reading: Luke 8: 26-39 Response: That Which You Seek That which you see is causing you to seek That which you see is causing you to seek That which you see is causing you to seek Proclamation: Still Small Voices Rev. Dr. Geoffrey Wilfong-Pritchard Hymn: Who is Moving Through the Silence? Who is moving through the silence. Gentle as the summer rain? Who is standing in the doorway, Knocking, asking to come in? Spirit, we have felt your presence In the streets of little towns, In the shadows of the city When we gather in your name. Spirit, we have seen your presence In the eyes of those who love, In the mercy of your people We have felt your presence come. Sprit, grace us with your presence, To console you little ones As with love you seek and find us And then lead us safely home. Who is moving through the silence, Gentle as the summer rain? Who is standing in the doorway, Knocking, asking to come in? AND RESPOND IN LOVE Offertory Prayers of the Community The Lord’s Prayer Langdon *Hymn: He Comes to Us as One Unknown He comes to us as one unknown, a breath unseen, unheard; as though within a heart of stone, or shriveled seed in darkness sown, a pulse of being stirred, a pulse of being stirred. He comes when souls in silence lie and thoughts of day depart; half-seen upon the inward eye, a falling star across the sky of night within the heart, of night within the heart. He comes to us in sound of seas, the ocean's fume and foam; yet small and still upon the breeze, a wind that stirs the tops of trees, a voice to call us home, a voice to call us home. He comes in love as once he came by flesh and blood and birth; to bear within our mortal frame a life, a death, a saving Name, for every child of earth, for every child of earth. He comes in truth when faith is grown; believed, obeyed, adored: the Christ in all the Scriptures shown, as yet unseen, but not unknown, our Saviour and our Lord, our Saviour and our Lord. *Commissioning and Benediction *Congregational Response: From This Holy Time From this holy time, from this sacred space, we go now to serve our own day and place, committed to follow the way Jesus trod: do justly, love mercy, walk humbly with God. He lives in our midst, through gone from our sight, baptised in his name, we walk in his light; we treasure his presence, example and word: do justly, love mercy, walk humbly with God. Let this be our life, till Christ comes again - to love as he loves and work for God's reign, this song in our hearts and this sign on our road: do justly, love mercy, walk humbly with God.
