In Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the party is heading for a victory in the state elections in September. Many people, especially in Saxony-Anhalt, associate their hopes for a change in German politics with their lead candidate, Ulrich Siegmund. How realistic is that? How much disappointment is foreseeable? You sent me your questions for the two lead candidates. Both had many weeks to answer—but both backed down. Ulrich Siegmund merely offered an apology for "lack of time." Leif-Erik Holm had a staffer send a collection of platitudes as a substitute for an answer. Are both of these figures of hope avoiding commitments by which they can be judged? Are AfD supporters heading for disappointment, like the MAGA supporters of Donald Trump once were?
