DAILY ROMAN CATHOLIC READINGS AND SPIRITUAL REFLECTIONS Wednesday, 26th March 2025 ------------------------------------------------ WEDNESDAY, THIRD WEEK OF LENT Dt 4:1, 5-9 Ps 147: 12-13, 15-16, 19-20 Mt 5: 17-19 ------------------------------------------------ LISTENING TO GOD’S WORD The readings of today remind us of the importance of adhering to God’s commandments and the blessings that come from obedience. In the first reading, Moses urges the Israelites to hear and keep the commandments of the Lord, emphasising that their adherence will lead to life and prosperity in the land promised to them. He implores them to remember the great deeds of God, who has been close to them, and to teach these commandments to future generations. The Gospel reinforces this message, as Jesus declares that He has come not to abolish the law but to fulfil it, urging His followers to uphold even the least of the commandments. St. Therese of the Child Jesus says, “I have no other desire than to love you, O my God.” This simple yet profound expression of faith encapsulates the essence of listening to God. St. Therese teaches that true fulfilment comes from a heart attuned to God’s voice, a theme that is echoed by many saints throughout the ages. St. Augustine reminds us, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” This restlessness is a call to seek God earnestly, to listen to His commandments, and to live them out in our daily lives. As we journey on this earthly pilgrimage, we are encouraged today to strive to listen attentively to God’s Word. This means not only hearing the commandments but also embodying them through actions of love, mercy, and justice. In a world filled with distractions, it is essential to cultivate a spirit of prayer and reflection, allowing God’s voice to guide decisions and interactions with others. And let us not forget that listening to God’s Word is a lifelong journey. May we be inspired by the examples of the saints and commit ourselves to living out our faith with joy and dedication. Let us pray for the grace to hear and respond to God’s call in our lives, that we may truly embody His commandments in our hearts and actions. Response: O Jerusalem, glorify the Lord!
