Evening Prayer, Friday, Week 5, Lent.

26 March 2021 recording in Australia. The Divine Office hymn 17 “Lord Jesus, think on me” is a translation by Allen W. Chatfield (1808-1896). It was sung to the tune SOUTHWELL 66.86 published in Damon’s Psalter in 1579. From the Liturgy of the Hours of the Catholic Church's Roman Rite, Ordinary Form. Notice added by John Lilburne 16 April 2021: I apologise for shortcomings that may be in this video regarding failing to following these instructions in the liturgical books. “a bow of the head is made at the name of Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the saint in whose honor the Mass or the liturgy of the hours is being celebrated.” (Ceremonial of Bishops, 68a). “54. Then, if a priest or deacon is presiding, he dismisses the congregation with the greeting, The Lord be with you, and the blessing as at Mass. He adds the invitation, Go in peace. R. Thanks be to God. In the absence of a priest or deacon the celebration concludes with May the Lord bless us, etc.”. (General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours, ICEL translation in Documents on the Liturgy 1963-1979, Liturgy Press, 1982, page 1105.) As a lay person it was wrong to have the dismissal “Go in peace.” It was also wrong to the have the blessing based on Solemn Blessing 9 in the 2010 Roman Missal. I should have concluded with what it has in the 1974 Divine Office, page [14]: “The Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life. R. Amen.” [Excerpt from the English translation of Ceremonial of Bishops © 1989, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation (ICEL).
