The Parable of the Sower Luke 8:4-15 Today's Gospel. "What does this parable mean?" The seed is the word of God. What fell on the path represents those who hear the word, but then the devil comes and takes it from their hearts, so that they will not believe or be saved. What fell on rocky ground represents those who, upon hearing the word, receive it with joy, but have no root; they are those who believe for a while, but in the moment of trial, they fail. What fell among thorns represents those who hear the word, but in the cares, riches, and pleasures of life, they are choked and bear no fruit.
