Holy Week Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper

Holy Week Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper

Our Holy Week liturgies are to help us to enter into the paschal events of Christ, when he establishes the new covenant through his death and Resurrection. 1. Palm Sunday, Jesus enters into Jerusalem with others for his final Jewish Passover season. As he enters, he is exalted as the rightful King in the line of King David. 2. Holy Thursday, Jesus and his disciples celebrate the Passover meal, and Jesus changes the ritual as they celebrate it. While the Passover connects Jewish people to the event of being freed from slavery in Egypt, Jesus changes the ritual to connect it to being freed from Slavery to sin through Jesus's passover from death to life. 3. Good Friday, after the passover meal Jesus is arrested that same night and then tried the next morning. After being mocked and tortured, he dies on the cross this afternoon. 4. The Easter Vigil, Jesus rises from the dead and dawn brings the promise of life after death.
