Fertilizer Plan for Autumn Maize | Use Fertilizer in Maize | Maize Fertilizer Application
Maize varieties play a vital role for getting higher maize production. For grain purpose, autumn crop of hybrid maize is not grown as extensively as that of spring. However, acreage of autumn maize becomes more than spring crop due to the inclusion of KPK, small farmers of non-hybrid varieties and growing of hybrids for silage purpose. A good variety is essential for getting good yield. Best performing varieties have the resistance against heat waves and climate change effects. They have strong stem to avoid lodging. They have the ability to transfer most of the food prepared by leaves into the corn to make it more and more weighted. With the climate change and high temperature developing conditions, new techniques are needed to be adopted to avoid failure of crop. Prices of essential phosphate and potash fertilizers are going to sky high levels and are out of the reach of a common farmer. Urea despite of being produced in our beloved country, has made short by stockers to gain maximum profit by sale of urea in black market. Farmers are advised to choose the variety according to their local conditions and the time of sowing so that they can achieve maximum profit. Boron is an essential micronutrient for growth and production of maize crop especially under high temperature stress conditions at the tasseling and silking stage of spring crop. In this video, we have advised the maize farmers to make supplementary use of boron at or just before tasseling stage to cope with the incidence of extra ordinary high temperature as prevailing during April and May 2023. Boron does not only keeps pollen grains viable for more hours but provides strength to the pollen grains to ensure pollen tube development but also ensures fertilization, grain development and uniform quality production of cobs. Not only pollination but speedy traslocation of photosynthates is also ensured by this tricky micronutrient. Therefore, we have advised the farmers to use Microbor (Swat Agro), Solubor (Syngenta) or any other quality product alike @ 1-2 kg/acre through flooding especially along with soluble potash just at the tasseling stage of current spring maize to escape abiotic stress of high temperature. Balanced Fertilizers application is necessary to achieve maximum yield of 100-120 monds per acre. Fertilizers scheduling can be kept as: First dose of fertilizers: 2 bags DAP + 1.5 bag SOP at land preparation Second dose of fertilizers: 1 bag Urea at 4-5 leaves stage Third dose of fertilizers: 1 bag Urea at 7-8 leaves stage Fourth dose of fertilizers: 1 bag Urea 15 days before flowering Zinc Sulphate 33% = 6 kg with first dose of Urea Boric acid (Boron) = 3 kg with DAP and SOP at Land preparation Fertilizer Plan for Autumn Maize | Use Fertilizer in Maize | Maize Fertilizer Application.
