ETFs, or Exchange Traded Funds, are investment funds that can be traded like stocks, offering diversification by allowing investors to track a wide range of assets in a single purchase. They come in two main types: actively managed ETFs, with a higher expense ratio, and passively managed ETFs, which track specific markets or indices, often with lower fees, providing exposure to various markets like the S&P 500 or international markets. As discussed, they can be bought any nearly any brokerage firm like Fidelity, Vanguard, SoFi, M1Finance, etc. Mutual Funds can only be bought directly through the exact brokerage firm unless you pay an extremely high fee on a limited number of other platforms (don't even think about this). Why use Index based ETFs? 1. Extremely easy 2. Saves you time 3. Requires little financial knowledge 4. Much cheaper than active funds 5. Historically proven to be better than picking individual stocks 6. Flexibility since you can buy and sell anytime you like. 7. More control over your taxes 8. Have no minimum required invested amount 9. Can be purchased on nearly any brokerage firm My Favorite ETFs: 1. VOO - Vanguards SP 500 ETF 2. VB - Vanguards Small Cap ETF 3.
