Novena to the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. Day 5

Novena to the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. Day 5

From September 20th to 28th, the miraculous novena to the holy archangels is prayed: ARCHANGEL SAINT MICHAEL, ARCHANGEL SAINT RAPHAEL, ARCHANGEL SAINT GABRIEL I will say little about Saint Michael, who is highly venerated in this area, not only at the shrine of San Miguel in Excelsis, with over a thousand years of history, built in the Aralar mountain range of Navarre, near the summit of Mount Archueta, whose image holding the Cross we contemplate in a Romanesque altarpiece, a masterpiece of European enameling. The spot, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view, tells us about the legend of the dragon and Teodosio de Goñi, a legend reinforced by the chains hanging next to the stone hollow where we can, according to tradition, peer through the gap in the temple wall into the cave where he performed penance until the archangel freed him and destroyed the dragon from his Carolingian past, from the remote times of dolmens that today emerge scattered among fields and beautiful beech forests. He was the Captain of the Heavenly Militia; his name translates as the motto Quis ut Deus? (Who is like God?), the battle cry of the good angels in the battle waged in heaven against the Enemy and his followers. We find it four times in Scripture: twice in the Book of Daniel, once in the Epistle of Saint Jude, and once in the Apocalypse, always linked to the fight against the Devil. Saint Gabriel, who can be translated from Hebrew as "God's strength," may be the most popular among the angelic spirits—angel, from the Greek ἄγγελος meaning news, message—for being the messenger chosen by the Father to announce to the Blessed Virgin the Incarnation of the divine Word in her most pure womb. As for Saint Raphael, whose name could be translated as "God's Medicine" or "God has worked health," we find him in the Book of Tobit, where he first appears disguised in human form, as the traveling companion of Tobit's son, calling himself "Azariah, the son of the great Ananias." His story is full of adventures, and the protective influence of the angel is evident in various ways, including the picturesque recounting of the binding "in the desert of Upper Egypt" of the demon who had previously killed seven husbands of Sarah, daughter of Rachel. After Tobias's return and healing from blindness, Azariah calls himself "the angel Raphael, one of the seven who stand before the Lord" (Tob. XII:15 and Rev. VIII:2). Regarding the functions attributed to Raphael, we know from a statement made to Tobias that when the latter was engaged in his work of mercy and charity, he (Raphael) offered his prayers to the Lord, since he was sent by the Lord to cure Tobias of his blindness and to deliver Sarah, his son's wife, from the clutches of the devil. Let us pray to Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Raphael the Archangel, and Saint Gabriel the Archangel that they may intercede for us.
