The game follows the story of the Destined One, an anthropomorphic monkey character based on Sun Wukong, the Monkey King. The plot picks up after Sun Wukong's defeat and imprisonment in stone by the heavenly forces. Before his defeat, Sun Wukong hid his essence and power in five relics scattered across the land. The Destined One's mission is to collect these relics to restore Sun Wukong's power. The game features multiple endings, depending on the player's choices. In one ending, the Destined One fails to inherit Sun Wukong's legacy, and his body remains in stone. However, if the player defeats an optional boss, Erlang, before the final confrontation, the Destined One successfully inherits Sun Wukong's memories and completes the reincarnation process.
