Listen to this story with the wish for happiness, peace, and prosperity in your home, family, and life. May the blessings of Lord Satyanarayan always remain upon all devotees. Victory to Lord Satyanarayan!" ॥ First Chapter॥ Once, at the Naimisharanya Tirtha, 88,000 sages, including Shaunaka, asked Shri Sutaji, "O Lord! In this Kaliyuga, how can people devoid of Vedic knowledge attain devotion to God and how will they be saved? Please tell us a way by which virtue can be attained in a short time and the desired results can be achieved. Please narrate such a story." Then Shri Sutaji replied, "O Vaishnavas, you have asked about the welfare of living beings." Now I will tell you about that supreme fast, the one that Narada asked Lakshmi Narayana about, and the goddess of Lakshmi told the great sage Narada. Listen to it, all of you. Once, Narada, seeking the welfare of others, wandered through the various worlds and arrived in the mortal world. Seeing that almost all humans born in various species suffer from numerous sufferings due to their actions, he wondered what effort could surely end the suffering of all beings. With this thought in mind, he went to Vishnu Loka. Seeing Narayana, the Lord of the Gods, with white complexion and four arms, holding a conch, discus, mace, and lotus in his hands, and wearing a garland, he began to praise, "O Lord! You are endowed with immense power. Even mind and speech cannot reach you; you have no beginning, middle, or end. You are the formless, the original being of creation, the destroyer of the sufferings of devotees. I salute you." Hearing this praise from Narada, Lord Vishnu said, "O great sage! What is on your mind? What purpose have you come here for? Tell me without hesitation." Narada Muni then said, "All humans in the mortal world, born in various species, are suffering from various kinds of suffering due to their actions. O Lord! If you have mercy on me, please tell me how all these human sufferings can be alleviated with just a little effort." Lord Vishnu said, "O Narada! You have asked a very good question for the welfare of mankind. I am telling you about the work that frees a person from attachment. Listen, there is a great fast that bestows immense virtue and is rare in both heaven and the mortal world. Today, out of love, I am telling you this: By observing this Satyanarayan fast properly, one enjoys happiness throughout life and attains salvation upon death." Hearing the words of Lord Vishnu, Narada Muni asked, "What is the result of that fast?" What are the rituals, who observed this fast, and on which day should it be observed? Please elaborate. The Lord said, "This fast, which removes sorrow and grief, increases wealth and prosperity, bestows good fortune and children, is a victorious one everywhere. With devotion and faith, one should worship Satyanarayan in the evening on any day with Brahmins and relatives. With devotion, take a banana fruit, ghee, milk, and a quarter of a kilogram of wheat powder as naivedya. In the absence of wheat, take sathi powder, sugar, and jaggery. Collect all edible items and offer them to the Lord. Feed the Brahmins and relatives, and then eat yourself. Spend time remembering Lord Satyanarayan by dancing, singing, etc., by observing this fast. This is a simple way to attain salvation on earth, especially in the Kaliyuga.
