Surah Yasin (Yaseen)|With Arabic Text | Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais| 36سورۃ یس بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم Surah Yaseen (also spelled Yā-Sīn; Arabic: سورة يس‎) is the 36th chapter (surah) of the Quran and consists of 83 verses (ayahs). It is classified as a Meccan surah, although some scholars believe that verse 12 may have been revealed during the Medinan period. The surah derives its name from the two mysterious Arabic letters "Ya" and "Seen" (يس) at the beginning of the chapter, the meaning of which remains known only to Allah. Scholars have debated their significance, with Tafsir al-Jalalayn, a well-known Sunni exegesis (tafsir), stating: "God knows best what He means by these letters." Many Hadiths highlight the virtues of Surah Yaseen. According to a narration by Ali (RA), the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "Everything has a heart, and the heart of the Quran is Yaseen. Whoever recites it seeking the pleasure of Allah and the Hereafter will be forgiven." (Sunan Ibn Majah 3787). Due to these benefits, it is commonly recited for seeking blessings, forgiveness, and protection from hardships. Surah Yaseen is widely recited in times of distress, illness, and after someone passes away, as it is believed to bring peace and ease to the soul.
