Doctor explains how to take OMEPRAZOLE (Losec/Prilosec), including uses, doses, side effects & more!

Dr O'Donovan explains to patients key facts about omeprazole (PPI also known as LOSEC MUPS, LOSEC or PYROCALM) including: 1. A brief overview of omeprazole 2. Who can and can’t take omeprazole and the common doses 3. How and when to take it 4. What you should do if you forget a dose or want to stop taking omeprazole 5. Potential side effects of omeprazole 6. And finally some common questions about omeprazole – such as can you take it with alcohol. Omeprazole is a type of medicine called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Proton pumps are enzymes in the lining of your stomach that help to make acid in order to digest food. Omeprazole prevents proton pumps working properly which in turn reduces the amount of acid the stomach makes. It can be given to help symptoms such as heart burn from acid reflux, or conditions like stomach ulcers.
