Brush gently in the morning and at night. Brushing should be the first thing your kids should be doing in the morning. And it should be the last thing they are doing at night. Even though kids after 4 years of age, can brush themselves, I request parents to do the brushing to the children up to 8 years of age. Actually, it is when kids start brushing themselves is when we start seeing their dental issues. So, you take care of brushing part at least once a day, for the kids upto 8 years. The brushing should be gentle with soft or extra soft brush for around 2 minutes covering all the corners of the teeth slowly and steadily. Don’t be aggressive while brushing. Also, limit your brushing time to 2 or 3 minutes. Brushing is the first line of defence to stop and prevent cavities 2. Rinse mouth with this solution after every meal: This is very important rule. After breakfast, lunch or dinner, take a half cup of regular water and give it to your children. Let them swish this water in the mouth for a few seconds and spit it out. They can do this for 2 to 3 times until the water in the cup is over. If you want more effective method for bigger kids, instead of water. You can use this solution. To 1/2 cup of water (around 100ml) add 3 drops of clove essential oil and a 1/4 teaspoon of sesame oil. Just mix them up once. Of course, oil does not mix with water. But, It is ok. Give this to your children and let them swish for a minute and then spit it out. Do this until all the water is over. If they rinse their mouth like this this after every meal, they can stop cavities and prevent them forever. If you cannot make this oil solution, you can also use regular water as I said. 3. Cut down Chocolates, Candies and Sodas: Take a look at how many chocolates, candies, cakes, muffins, ice creams, chocolate syrup, Sodas, lemonades, juices they are having every day. You need to cut down on these these sugary food items. These are bad not only to your teeth but also to overall health. First explain to your kids that the sugars are not good and tell them that they can only have in limited quantities with moms or dads permission. Well, let it be Mom, Dads sometimes relax the rules. If they have to eat chocolates, cakes or drink sodas, then make sure to rinse off their mouth after that with fresh water.
