It was released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 3, 2020. It also released alongside an online multiplayer game, Resident Evil: Resistance. The game received generally favorable reviews, with praise for its graphics, presentation, and gameplay. It was criticized for its short length, pacing, and absence of elements from the original game. The game shipped over two million copies within a week of release.
